About the Artist

Lo and behold for he was created

I'm Bryon Wackwitz, a fantasy artist and illustrator, best known as one of the first 49 artists for Magic: The Gathering. However, my career encompasses much more. I am deeply inspired by fantasy, sci-fi, horror, nature, and history—an eclectic mix that continues to influence my work today.

My passion for fantasy and art ignited in my childhood, drawing inspiration from 70s and 80s comic books, cartoons, and monster movies from weekend creature feature marathons. This love was further fueled when I discovered Dungeons & Dragons at age 12. Artists like Erol Otus, Jeff Easley, and Larry Elmore deeply influenced my early work, bringing the fantasy worlds I played in to life.

My artistic journey continued through college, where I fell in love with the works of Impressionists and Albrecht Dürer. These influences helped shape my style and approach to art.

I work in various mediums, including oils, acrylics, airbrush, and pen and ink. Starting with pen and ink in high school and college, I later expanded my skills to include acrylics, oils, and airbrush techniques.

I currently live and work in Philadelphia Pa, and from 2001-2024 I owned and operated Mutt Airbrush and Art Supply on famous South Street, which I recently closed the physical location and transferred to online only. You can find the website for that here
